Dekula band is back! The delightful live act Dekula Band follow up their highly praised album debut "Opika" (was released at the end of 2019) with a storming 2-track single.
With the two tracks on the "Coltan sounds" single the band's mission is still to get you up and dance and to feel good in the moment.
However the lyrics on the title track here is about the serious problems and situation in their native country Congo.
The bandleader Dekula says: "Coltan is minerals, like gold. In Congo they use it to produce mobile phones. There is UN miltary there to keep the peace and avoid conflicts about this, but lately the UN military have been doing business selling Coltan. So, our message in the song is: Monusco(UN) go out of the DRC (Democratic republic of Congo), we don't want anymore genocides under your watch. Your mission was to keep peace unfortunately it's turning to robbery"
Dekula band is centered around the legendary guitar player Dekula Kahanga (who was in the leading dance orchestra in Tanzania during the 70’s and 80’s: Orchestra Maquis Original) , this African band (based in Sweden) have been a very popular live band for the last years. Whether it's been at one of their monthly gigs at the not so glamorous club Lilla Wien in Stockholm or at bigger venues at Stockholm Jazz Festival.
Dekula Kahanga and the singer Gaby are both from Congo and with the other members coming from Kenya, Uganda, Senegal and Sweden they all bring their special influences to the infectous and hypnotic style of soukous that they have refined over the years.
At the end of 2019 they played at the great Afro festival Face Z in Geneva, Switzerland (among great acts like Stella Chiwise, Tallawit Timboctou and many more). And if it wasn't for this virus thing, dekula band would be touring in Tanzania right now. Well, until you get the chance to come to one of their concerts, turn this one up loud and it will lift your spirits up (if you let them) and dance on, sisters and brothers!

Why do you love this album? Well, it is the quality of ALL the Analog Africa releases , the astonishing presentation- artwork, AWESOME booklets, the mastering, the music first of all and the feeling you connect with it and the artists involved. Due to not earning enough I changed from vinyl to CDs, but I am glad for the high quality downloads of the vinyl only releases that you are able to burn to disc. Together with a chosen few others AA is a greater than great label. Period. Markus Bader
